Christmas offers a lot of family togetherness.

Then again, Christmas offers a lot of family ... togetherness.

Those who need an escape – and a drink – during the holidays are not without options. Although most businesses in town will be shut up tight on Christmas, several accommodating bars will be open and accepting escapees, er, customers.

Many of Wichita’s most popular bars will be closed. The Anchor closes early on Christmas Eve and will be closed on Christmas Day. Same goes for Heroes, Mort’s, Old Chicago, the Monarch and both Emerson Biggins. The Pumphouse and Fat Tony’s will be closed both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

The following bars, however, are there if you need them. If you don’t see your neighborhood watering hole listed, call for hours.

Public at the Brickyard, 129 N. Rock Island: The restaurant and bar will open for lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Christmas Eve, then from 8 p.m. to roughly midnight for drinks only. On Christmas Day, drinks will be served from 8 p.m. until business slows down.
