If a state-operated lottery were a business, the federal and state governments would shut it down as a fraud.


Hitler’s greatest mistake was being born too soon. If he were on the march now, would there still be will in Washington and London to stop him? Would there be an arsenal of democracy to save mankind from darkness?


What all seem to be overlooking is that no evidence obtained by NSA wiretaps or phone intercepts is admissible in court against a U.S. citizen failing the issue of a search warrant by a court of general jurisdiction.


On whether the FBI should have helped the accused bomb plotter “with his mental illness”: A couple of visits with a chiropractor and he could have been considered cured, then released to kill me or my loved ones. No, thanks. They did it the right way.


At what point will the victims’ rights be more important than the defendants’ rights? The Carr brothers had no regard for their victims, and now they are using the justice system to stay alive.


It is an outrage that the families of the Carr brothers’ victims have to relive that horrible night of terror. They shouldn’t have to see those evil men’s pictures in the newspaper or hear about their appeals, which they shouldn’t get.


Pope Francis’ remarks have conservative squawk boxes up in arms even as they declare there’s a “war on Christmas.” I predict a loud clamor on Dec. 26 for the separation of church and state.


There’s nothing saying you must know Christ to celebrate Christmas. But ignoring Him makes as much sense as taking veterans out of Veterans Day or not recognizing Martin Luther King while celebrating his birthday.


The best thing to be is optimistic. The Shocks do it, Hatman Jack does it, and so does the Nifty Nut House. Fancy folks do it. Plain folks do it. Now is the time to do it. Expect an opportunity.


Ranked teams refuse to play WSU in men’s basketball, but our schedule has been anything but light.


I saw “White Christmas” at the Crown Uptown Theatre and caught the Christmas spirit. Bonus: the tap dancing. I also saw “A Christmas Carol” at the Forum Theatre – wonderful voices, especially the outstanding Scrooge. It’s now one of our Christmas traditions.


Thank you so much to the couple who paid for my lunch at the Chinese restaurant on Dec. 10. I was totally surprised. The season must be the reason.
