A man shot in the head minutes after leaving the Power & Light district early Monday drove himself to a hospital, Kansas City police said.

The 25-year-old victim told police that after he and a friend left a bar in the district, they were driving near 16th and Genessee streets when they noticed a black car following them.

When they got to 12th Street, they heard gunshots, their back window shattered and blood started flowing from the driver’s head.

The driver continued driving to an emergency room because his friend was too intoxicated to take over, he told police. They arrived about 3:20 a.m.

Doctors determined the victim had been shot in the upper part of his left temple. The injury was not believed to be life-threatening.
