A few thousand people gathered this week at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church to celebrate Wichitas Our Lady of Guadalupe festival. The Catholic holiday honors an apparition of the Virgin Mary before a Mexican farmer in 1531.
The annual festivals final event, a parade, starts at 11:30 a.m. Sunday at Third and Waco in downtown Wichita. The route goes north to 21st, then jogs east to the church, 2351 N. Market.
Its more than religion, its something in the culture, said Father Jose Machado, church pastor. Thats why Our Lady of Guadalupe is so important.
