A man who may have been hallucinating accidentally shot himself in the hand and leg early Tuesday morning in southwest Wichita, police said.

A resident of a mobile home park in the 2200 block of West MacArthur flagged down a police officer at about 2:30 a.m. and told him they had seen a man wearing bloody clothing, Capt. Brent Allred said. The 36-year-old man was found walking toward a nearby QuikTrip to call for help.

The bullet went through the man’s left hand and left thigh, Allred said. He was taken to Via Christi Hospital St. Francis for treatment.

Officers found the handgun the victim was handling when it went off along with “several other guns” in the man’s mobile home, Allred said.

The victim gave several different explanations for how the injuries occurred and finally told police he may have been hallucinating at the time.
