Share the Season is an annual campaign that offers one-time aid to people affected by unforeseen hardships. The people are not identified to protect their privacy.

This 27-year-old single mother would like nothing more than to provide at least something for her three young daughters for Christmas.

“I’m really struggling with that,” she said.

A certified nurse assistant, she saw her hours at a nursing home where she works cut significantly when the home lost patients. Her paycheck took another hit when she became ill and had to miss a week of work.

“It caused me to fall behind on my bills,” said the mother of daughters who are 10, 7 and 4.

She said she gets paid twice a month and her first paycheck in December will have to go entirely for rent.

The gas utility has also threatened to turn off her gas because she’s so far behind in payments, she said.

“We have no one to stay with because we aren’t from Wichita,” she said. “I am really trying hard to stay afloat. This could at least help me give my kids a Christmas.”

So far, Share the Season has raised $127,803.
