Kansas State landed six football players on the Associated Press All-Big 12 teams Monday.

Junior receiver Tyler Lockett led the way, earning first-team honors both at his position and as an all-purpose player. Lockett, who caught 71 passes for 1,146 yards and eight touchdowns, was joined on the first team by junior defensive end Ryan Mueller and senior safety Ty Zimmerman.

Mueller, a Leawood native, led K-State with 11.5 sacks. He also made 61 tackles, and was considered a candidate for Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year. But Jackson Jeffcoat, of Texas won that honor.

Zimmerman made 69 tackles and three interceptions before ending his season early with an injury against TCU. Zimmerman has now received all-conference accolades of some form in four straight years.

Senior linebacker Blake Slaughter, junior center B. J. Finney and senior left tackle Cornelius Lucas were all represented on the second team.

Kansas placed two players on the all-conference team. James Sims was a first-team running back, and Ben Heeney was a second-team linebacker.

Baylor quarterback Bryce Petty won Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year.

The all-conference team was compiled by votes from media members who cover the Big 12. The league’s Coach of the Year award will be announced Tuesday.
