A 12-year-old boy received several staples to his head Friday after he was reportedly attacked by another boy wielding a 2-by-4 board, Wichita police Sgt. Bruce Watts said.

Law enforcement responded to the report about 2:30 p.m. in the area of Sunnybrook and Clifton, near 31st Street South and Hillside. When they arrived, Watts said, they found the wounded boy, who told police a 13-year-old boy hit him on the back of his head with the lumber.

The older boy was not located, he said Saturday.

The 12-year-old was taken by ambulance to Via Christi Hospital St. Joseph, where staff closed the wound with staples, Watts said. He did not know what prompted the attack.
