An electrical outage affecting about 1,500 customers in west central Wichita is over, and a Westar Energy spokeswoman said the outage could have been caused by the cold.
The outage began around 1:30 a.m. Friday, in the area around Exploration Place, said Westar spokeswoman Erin La Row. By 3:30 a.m., crews were able to restore some power, but 1,230 customers remained without. All customers’ electricity was restored by about 5:50 a.m., she said.
Crews found a piece of equipment on Second Street between Millwood and Fern that failed, and they also encountered a line down. Cold weather can stress lines and equipment, and Westar thinks the cold could have caused the outage, La Row said.
