Wichita police: Theft of wheelchair ramps a ‘dastardly deed’

“It’s obviously a pretty dastardly deed,” is the way Lt. Doug Nolte put it.

Nolte, the Wichita police spokesman, was talking Tuesday about someone stealing a set of aluminum wheelchair ramps outside an apartment in the 400 block of West Pawnee.

The theft apparently occurred on Nov. 22 or 23 but wasn’t reported until more recently. The resident hadn’t been out of the apartment to notice the theft. A care provider discovered the theft, Nolte said.

It’s possible that the aluminum ramp could have been stolen to be cashed in as scrap metal, Nolte said.
