Wichita State’s Baker honored by MVC

Wichita State sophomore Ron Baker earned Missouri Valley Conference player of the week honors.

Baker, a 6-foot-3 guard from Scott City, averaged 22 points, five rebounds and two assists in wins over DePaul, BYU and Saint Louis. He made 19 of 36 shots and 23 of 26 free throws in the three games. He also earned Most Valuable Player honors in the CBE Classic.

For the season, Baker averages 16.1 points and 4.1 rebounds. His 10 blocked shots lead the team. In his past four games, Baker scored 21, 21, 23 and 22 points. He is the first Shocker to score 20-plus points in four straight games since Garrett Stutz in 2012.
