Authorities on Monday pulled the body of a woman in her 20s from the Little Arkansas River just northwest of downtown.

No foul play is thought to be involved, police said.

A man walking along the river at about 1:30 p.m. discovered the body floating face down near the east bank behind some apartments about a block northwest of Murdock and Waco, Wichita police Lt. Alan Prince said.

It’s thought the woman entered the water sometime Monday, Prince said.

The woman was wearing a backpack and had identification on her, but family members needed to be notified before her name could be released, Prince said.

“It’s unknown at this time whether she was homeless or what the situation is,” he said. “There doesn’t appear to be any foul play that we know of yet. It’s pretty early into the investigation.”
