A Wichita couple reported they were threatened by a teenager armed with a gun who had invaded their home trying to steal their television, but the theft was thwarted and the would-be burglar fled empty-handed after a scuffle with one of the intended victims, police reported Sunday.

The 19-year-old man and 18-year-old woman reported that they discovered the burglar trying to take their TV about 5:40 a.m. Sunday at the man’s home in the 3100 block of South Glenn. The burglar had apparently entered the home through an unlocked front door, said Sgt. Bart Brunscheen.

The male victim told police he wrestled with the teen, who broke free and ran away, Brunscheen said.

The burglar was described as a black man about 17 years old; 6 feet, 1 inch tall; with a thin build and short hair. He was wearing a camouflage hooded shirt and dark blue jeans, Brunscheen said.

Brunscheen said the initial report did not say whether a gun had been recovered. The case is being investigated as an aggravated robbery, he said.
