A 46-year-old man was arrested Saturday night, suspected of beating his girlfriend over a three-hour period in the home they shared, before she fled and he slashed his wrists, Wichita police reported.

The man was treated for his injuries and then booked for investigation of aggravated kidnapping, domestic violence and aggravated battery, police Sgt. Bart Brunscheen said Sunday.

Police became aware of the incident when the 38-year-old woman flagged down a passing patrol car near Florence and Central.

She had a cut over her eye and bruising on her face. She told police her boyfriend had held her against her will in the home, beating her and threatening her with a knife, Brunscheen said.

Police proceeded to the couple’s home in the 500 block of North Florence and found the man nearby, Brunscheen said.
