Matt Robinson and RG Flath scored in the shootout and goalie Taylor Nelson stopped four of the five shots he faced in the shootout round, giving the Thunder a 3-2 win over the Mavericks on Saturday night in Independence, Mo.
Missouri took a 2-0 lead in the first period, but Wichita pulled even with a pair of goals from Jon Booras less than three minutes apart late in the first period. Booras’ first goal was a power-play score with assists from Jesse Dudas and Andrew Martens; the second was unassisted after he carried the puck from the Thunder line into the Missouri end and scored from a sharp angle.
That was all the scoring for both teams, though, as Nelson turned aside 14 shots in the next two periods and Mavericks goalie Joe Howe stopped 20.
Missouri, which lost for the fourth time this season, remains in second place in the CHL. The victory was the Thunder’s fourth of the season, but second in the last three games.
