The April 3 shooting death of a man who was fleeing from a South Seneca credit union robbery has been classified a suicide, Sedgwick County District Attorney Marc Bennett said Tuesday.
An autopsy report showed that the suspect, Horace L. Gwyn, 26, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Bennett said. As Gwyn fired the shot into the right side of his head, Bennett said, a Sedgwick County sheriff’s deputy simultaneously fired a shot that struck him in the upper back. Bennett said the shot fired by the deputy would not have been fatal. He said the deputy was justified in opening fire after Gwyn fired a shot at him during his attempted getaway.
The robbery occurred at the Credit Union of America office at 1920 S. Seneca.
