Thieves take 22 wire spools, 5 storm grates from Darling Construction

As Thanksgiving approaches, it can be easy to find reasons to be grateful. But one Wichita business discovered it was grateless on Monday morning.

An employee for Darling Construction at 3100 E. Harry showed up for work at about 6 a.m. Monday and discovered 22 spools of wire and five cast iron storm grates were missing, Lt. Doug Nolte said.

The theft occurred sometime between 2 p.m. on Saturday and 6 a.m. on Monday, police were told. Someone had cut a lock off the entrance to a construction building.

A Ford truck reported stolen on Sunday from the 3000 block of East Harry was found at the business, Nolte said.

“It appear the thieves came to the business in a stolen truck and left the truck there,” he said.

The spools of wire have a combined value of perhaps $1,500, Nolte said.

Anyone with information about the theft is asked to call 911 or Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111.
