Four young children are in protective custody after Wichita police found them alone Friday evening.

Sgt. Bruce Watts said police received a call about midnight Friday from someone saying a 4-year-old girl was wandering alone in the 1400 block of North Volutsia. Officers who went to her house found three more children at home alone, two 1-year-olds and a 6-month-old, all boys.

“No parents or adults were present,” Watts said.

Police took the children to Wesley Medical Center for checkups and then took them into protective custody.

Officers still are investigating the case, Watts said.
