Commencement for the latest detention deputy academy class to graduate will be held Friday, officials said.

The ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Sedgwick County Extension Office at 7001 W. 21st St. There are 19 deputies in the class.

They completed 11 weeks of basic academy training, which included such topics as interpersonal communication, policy and procedure, legal issues, computer training, and defensive tactics.

Following graduation, the recruits will undergo several weeks of field training, working with veteran deputies at the Sedgwick County Jail.
