Metro Grill west: A west-side location of Michael Gonzalez’s Metro Grill is expected to open in the old Bartelli’s Pizzeria spot at 10330 W. Central within a month. Bartelli’s vacated the space in September after 10 years in business. Gonzalez, who also has a Waterfront location at 10096 E. 13th St., said he got a good deal on the space and couldn’t turn it down. The restaurant will have all his regular menu items, including his fabulous Bob and Cuban sandwiches. Customers will order at the counter, take a number and wait for their food to be delivered to the tables. Watch for more updates.

Cow & Sow Deli: This new downtown deli/mini-grocery, owned by Tracy Coln, opened last week on the bottom floor of the Renfro apartments at 612 E. Douglas. Coln has farm ties, and her store focuses on farm-fresh, locally grown ingredients and groceries. Cow & Sow also has coffee, pastries and a salad bar and serves sandwiches made on bread from Newton’s Crust & Crumb Co., which also will be sold by the loaf at the store. It’ll have vegan and gluten-free options each day.

The business includes a tiny grocery area that sells items such as farm-fresh lettuce, all-natural beef, farm-made cheeses, all-natural jellies and condiments and in-season vegetables. It also stocks a few necessities, such as toilet paper and lip balm. The deli has a few seats along the window, but there’s more seating in the space next door, which Coln also owns. Hours will be 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. For more information, call 316-260-2523.

Chelsea’s Carry Out: This new restaurant opened a week ago in the former Brats N Hots location at 601 S. Greenwich. It’s owned by Chelsea Stroh, who left behind a career in human resources because she was “ready to invest in my future.” She serves items such as double cheeseburgers, gyros, steak and chicken wraps and hummus. The restaurant has seven tables for those who want to dine in or people can place to-go orders. Hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturdays. Veterans Day deals

Several restaurants around Wichita are offering deals for veterans in honor of Veterans Day on Monday. Among them are the Jimmie’s Diners at 3111 N. Rock Road and 1519 S. George Washington Blvd., which will offer 25 percent off meals to military members with an ID, both active and retired. Oliver’s Little Italy at 1930 S. Oliver is offering 15 percent off the bill for all military, EMS, firefighters and Wichita police. Several other chains are offering free or reduced-price meals. Iron Sommelier dinner at Newport

Newport Grill’s Iron Sommelier dinner will feature four local wine experts battling to see who can create the best wine pairings. The dinner will feature eight courses and 16 wines. Attendees will vote on the best pairings. The event is at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Newport Grill, 1900 N. Rock Road, and costs $125 a person. For reservations, call 316-636-9555.

Two tasty fundraisers

A couple of tasty food fundraisers are scheduled for this weekend. One is called the Maverick Round-Up, and it’s a “steak feed” that serves as a fundraiser for the Maize South Booster Club. It starts at 6:30 p.m. Friday at The Anderson Barn, 13820 W. 45th St. in Colwich. Tickets to the adults-only event are $45 a person and include steak and desserts. The event also will include dancing, a silent auction and a fire pit. A cash bar will be available. For tickets, call 316-516-0434.

The other fundraiser is the Riverside Citizens Association’s 37th Annual Chili Supper, which is from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 1101 N. River Blvd. Admission is $7 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. Take-out orders are $10. For more information, call 316-264-7068.
