Kansas soldier killed in Afghanistan

A Kansas soldier was killed in combat this week while serving in Afghanistan, the Department of Defense announced Monday.

Sgt. 1st Class Forrest W. Robertson, 35, of Westmoreland, died Sunday from injuries sustained when his unit was attacked by small-arms fire in Pule-E-Alam, Afghanistan.

Robertson was a cavalry scout platoon sergeant. He joined the Army in July 1996 and arrived in Afghanistan on his latest deployment in December 2012. A Bronze Star recipient, he was on his fifth deployment.
