Wichita State volleyball falls from first place

Wichita State volleyball lost a five-set match to Southern Illinois on Saturday night in Carbondale, Ill., knocking the Shockers out of first place in the Missouri Valley Conference.

The Shockers lost the first two sets, rallied to win the bext two but couldn’t win the match (25-23, 25-21, 19-25, 21-25, 15-11).

Wichita State fell to 10-3 in the MVC, a half-game behind Northern Iowa (10-2).

WSU started its comeback in Saturday’s match by grabbing a 10-5 lead in the third set, stretching it to 19-9 and then closing out the set. After taking another six-point lead early in the fourth set, WSU saw SIU battle back to within 22-21 before the Shockers held on.

SIU built a 9-5 lead in the fifth set, but the Shockers rallied and pulled with 10-9 on kills from Shelsey Feekin and Sam Sanders. SIU finished the set on a 5-2 run.

Ashley Andrade led WSU with 17 kills. Feekin had a career-high 14 kills, 47 assists and nine digs.
