Call for buy-local gifts

Before we enter the Christmas-gift season, we’d like to hear about your favorite local- or Kansas-made items that make good holiday gifts, so that we can share them with other readers by Thanksgiving time. Please e-mail the name of the item, along with a short description, where you can buy it, and your name and phone number, to acalovich@wichitaeagle.com by Nov. 15. Put “local gifts” in the subject line.

Home expo this weekend

The Wichita Fall Home Remodeling & Decorating Expo by RJ Promotions is free this weekend at Century II. It will feature products for inside and outside the house, a fully furnished house, holiday decorating seminars by HGTV “Design Star” winner Jennifer Bertrand, antiques appraisals by Micheal Amosson, and Don Pence, who has built large-scale log homes for NASCAR drivers and executives.

Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Bertrand’s seminars will be at 11:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday. There is a limit of two items for the antiques appraisals.

Donate food, get roses

The annual Rio Roses for Food drive is this weekend at two local floral shops. For a donation of five food-pantry items or $5 to the Kansas Food Bank, you will receive six free Rio Roses. The drive is Saturday at Dean’s Designs in Wichita and at Walters Flowers & Interiors in El Dorado, and Saturday and Sunday at Susan’s in Wichita.

After that, Donna’s Designs in Winfield will have the drive from Thursday through Nov. 9, and Primarily Plants & Floral in Oxford will participate on Nov. 14.

The food drive features roses distributed by the wholesale Valley Floral Co.

In bloom at Botanica

The roses are loving the cool weather. Among those blooming at Botanica is the Dream Come True grandiflora, in the Jessie Wooldridge Brosius Rose Garden.
