Wichita State volleyball sweeps Evansville

Wichita State’s volleyball team swept Evansville (25-11, 25-17, 25-14) on Friday night in Evansville.

The Shockers jumped to a 7-2 lead in the opening set, stretched the advantage to 16-5 and closed the set by scoring the final five points.

Evansville led 6-3 in the second set. WSU took an 8-7 lead on back-to-back aces from Dani Mostrom. Ashley Andrade had consecutive kills midway through the set to give Wichita State a 16-11 lead, and the Evansville never threatened again.

In the third set WSU went on a 6-0 run to take a 10-5 lead. Sam Sanders had an ace midway through the set and ended the match with a kill.

WSU middle Elizabeth Field had nine kills and five blocks; setter Chelsey Feekin had nine kills and 31 assists. WSU had a .346 attack percentage, highlighted by Feekin’s 9 kills on 10 attempts. Evansville hit .105 for the match.

Wichita State (21-5, 10-2 MVC) leads the Missouri Valley Conference standings by a half game over Illinois State and Northern Iowa. The Shockers play at Southern Illinois on Saturday.
