K-State women defeat Alaska-Anchorage

— The Kansas State women’s basketball team pulled away late to beat Alaska-Anchorage 73-65 during an exhibition game Friday at Bramlage Coliseum.

The game was tied at 62-62 with 5 minutes, 19 seconds remaining, but the Wildcats scored the next 11 points. The strong finish started with a jumper from Katya Leick, Leticia Romero and Chantay Caron kept it going with jumpers of their own and Brianna Craig buried a three-pointer before Leick ended the spurt with another jumper.

Leick led the way for K-State with 24 points and 12 rebounds. Romero also played well, scoring 15 points and grabbing nine rebounds.

Jessica Madison scored 15 points for Alaska-Anchorage.

K-State won both of its exhibition games and opens the regular season next Friday against Tennessee State at Bramlage Coliseum.
