One arrested in connection with Eureka shooting death

Law enforcement officials have arrested one person in connection with the shooting death of a man in Eureka early Friday morning.

Someone called 911 at 3:18 a.m. to report a shooting at 718 Oak in Eureka, Greenwood County Sheriff Rusty Bitler said in a prepared statement. Sheriff’s deputies and emergency responders found 25-year-old Michael Mefford dead at the scene.

Shortly before 4 a.m., deputies arrested a man in connection with the shooting. No further arrests are anticipated in the case, Bitler said in an interview late Friday morning.

“We’re still putting together the pieces” of how the incident unfolded, Bitler said.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is assisting with the investigation.
