The Kansas Firefighters Museum is launching its next children’s winter coat drive with a breakfast and auction fundraiser set for Nov. 14 in Wichita.
The Coats for Kids “Hero Breakfast” runs from 7 to 10 a.m. at Twin Peaks Restaurant, 8310 E. 21st St. The meal costs $5 per person and will be served by Twin Peaks staff members as well as the stars of the 2014 Kansas Firefighter Calendar. Auction items include a fire engine pedal car.
Donations of new children’s coats and winter accessories will be accepted on site. Contributions may also be dropped off beginning Friday through Nov. 26 at any Wichita or Sedgwick County fire station and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays at the Kansas Firefighters Museum, 1300 S. Broadway.
Coats for Kids, a project of the museum, distributes coats and winter apparel to children who need them, regardless of income. Last year, money raised from the campaign and firefighter calendar sales provided 500 coats to Kansas kids.
To donate an auction item for the breakfast, call Nancy Peters, museum volunteer, at 316-648-0563. Current and former firefighters interested in volunteering at the event should contact Kim Taylor at 316-293-7802.
