Via Christi Hospital St. Teresa and Wesley Medical Center are the only two Wichita hospitals to be named Top Performers on Key Quality Measures by the Joint Commission, a nonprofit, nationwide accreditation organization.
The award is based on data for 2012. St. Teresa was named in the areas of pneumonia and surgical care. Wesley was named in the areas of heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, surgical care and children’s asthma.
Top Performers represent the top 33 percent of Joint Commission-accredited hospitals that reported performance data, according to the Joint Commission. Other performance measures include stroke, hospital-based inpatient psychiatry, immunization and venous thromboembolism, which is a blood clot in a vein.
Other Kansas hospitals that were named include Allen County Hospital, Iola; Rainbow Mental Health Facility, Kansas City; Lawrence Memorial Hospital, Lawrence; Saint John Hospital, Leavenworth; Osawatomie State Hospital, Osawatomie; Miami County Medical Center, Paola; Shawnee Mission Medical Center, Shawnee Mission; and Stormont-Vail Health Care, Topeka.
