— Authorities say a man has killed a 4-year-old girl while target shooting in southwest Missouri.

The Springfield News-Leader reports that the shooting happened Monday afternoon south of Rogersville.

Christian County Sheriff Joey Kyle says a 24-year-old man was firing a .22-caliber rifle when the girl, who was visiting his home, walked into his path of fire. The girl was struck in the head.

The man who shot the girl was arrested on an outstanding warrant from Webster County, but was taken to the Christian County jail in Ozark. Kyle says he will be held there as deputies investigate the shooting.

Authorities didn't immediate release the name of the man who was target shooting or the girl who was killed.
