Construction at Wichita Mid-Continent Airport could snarl traffic near the terminal this week.

The airport is recommending that, starting Tuesday, passengers arrive at least two hours before their flights depart to allow for delays caused by work to install pilings for the new parking garage.

The pilings will be installed to depths of 80 to 90 feet, and the equipment necessary for the job will be close to the roadway leading to the existing terminal building.

Traffic will be diverted from the area for safety and at times will be stopped for several minutes while construction activity occurs, the airport says.

The delays will occur after the morning rush of flight departures until about mid-afternoon.

The airport says that this work will be completed on or before Nov. 4, weather permitting.
