Denver defeats Thunder 6-5 in overtime

The Thunder scored four goals in the second period Saturday night, scored a game-tying goal with 1:46 left in the third … and lost 6-5 in overtime to the Cutthroats on Saturday night in Denver.

The Thunder trailed 1-0 after allowing Denver to score shorthanded in the first period.

Wichita scored four straight goals in the second period —power-play goals by Nick McParland and Mike Wilson, an unassisted score by Dustin Donaghy and a shorthanded goal by Matt Robinson — to build a 4-1 lead at the 16:02 mark.

Denver cut the lead to 4-2 with a goal late in the second period, then tied it 4-4 with two goals in 20 seconds early in the third period. Robin Soudek’s second goal of the game put the Cutthroats ahead 5-4 at 12:48 of the third.

Robinson’s second goal of the night forced overtime.

Denver’s A.J. Gale scored the game-winner at 2:34 of overtime. Gale played for the Thunder in the 2010-11 season. His Thunder teammate that season, Troy Schwab had three assists on the night.
