A Trunk or Treat event will be held 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday along Broadway in downtown Wichita.

The event is open to the public. An area along Broadway from Elm south to Second Street will be blocked off.

Vehicles with decorated trunks and containing candy will be lined up and down Broadway, said Victor Peterson of Partners for Wichita, which is helping organize the first-time event.

There also will be free barbecue in the area north of Central, and music and games for children in the YMCA parking lot. Free costumes will be provided to children who need one.

“It’s going to be like a big block party,” Peterson said.

Also involved with the event are the YMCA, Lord’s Diner, Mead’s Corner, Inter-Faith Ministries, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Economy Corner, First United Methodist Church, First Presbyterian Church and the Catholic Diocese of Wichita. The Wichita Police Department is also helping.
