Someone stole tools, equipment and other property from a detached garage in far east Wichita on Tuesday night — but then had to leave part of the haul behind a short distance away, police said.
The burglary was discovered at about 7:15 p.m. Tuesday in the 300 block of North 143rd Street East, near Central, Lt. Joe Schroeder said. Someone cut a hole in the sheet metal at the back wall of the garage and stole recreational vehicles, tools and equipment worth tens of thousands of dollars.
“It’s a very large loss,” Schroeder said.
But authorities found a Lincoln Zephyr parked on the Kansas Turnpike not far from the crime scene, police records show. It contained some of the stolen property.
More than one vehicle had to be used to haul away the property reported stolen, Schroeder said. No arrests have yet been made in the case.
