A 38-year-old Wichita man facing trial next month for child sex crimes was charged Friday with kidnapping and fondling a 9-year-old in a separate case.

Jorge R. Zozaya is accused of taking or confining the 9-year-old using “force, threat or deception” on or about Oct. 4, 2012, with the intent to commit an act of aggravated indecent liberties with a child, according to a complaint filed Friday in Sedgwick County District Court. He is also charged with one count of “lewd fondling or touching” of a child under age 14 in the case.

Zozaya appeared before Sedgwick County District Judge Ben Burgess on Friday afternoon via a TV broadcast from Sedgwick County Jail, where records show he has been in custody since Oct. 21, 2012. He is currently awaiting trial on two counts of child rape, two counts of criminal sodomy against a child younger than 14, aggravated indecent solicitation of a child and aggravated indecent liberties with a child. That case, court and police records show, involves a girl who was 11 last October, when the alleged crimes reportedly occurred.

The nature of Zozaya’s relationship to either child was not apparent Friday. He is being held in lieu of $100,000 bond on each set of charges.

His preliminary hearing in the case involving the 9-year-old is set for Oct. 31. The jury trial in the earlier case is scheduled for Nov. 4, court records show; it’s been continued multiple times.
