Wichita State plays its final non-conference volleyball match against surging Louisville at Koch Arena at 7 p.m. Tuesday
The Shockers (16-4) can use another solid victory for their NCAA Tournament resume. Louisville (10-6) is on an eight-match win streak and leads the American Athletic Conference (its home for this season before it moves to the ACC) with a 6-0 record. WSU dropped to No. 49 in the NCAA’s volleyball power rankings (RPI) on Monday. Louisville is No. 53 and three of its losses are against teams currently ranked in the coaches association poll. Northern Iowa also defeated the Cardinals 3-0 in early September.
WSU dropped four spots in the RPI after losing at Illinois State on Friday, to fall out of a first-place tie in the Missouri Valley Conference, and winning at Indiana State on Saturday. Louisville is currently the highest-ranked RPI team remaining on WSU’s schedule. No. 57 Illinois State, No. 73 Missouri State and No. 80 Northern Iowa are the remaining MVC opponents in the top 100.
The Shockers will wear pink jerseys and auction them off after the match as part of the “Dig Pink” fund-raiser to support breast cancer awareness.
