Spirit AeroSystems’ job fair Saturday drew more than 2,500 applicants, with a line that stretched through the parking lot at the company’s human resources facility on South Oliver.

The company was able to make about 190 job offers from interviews conducted Saturday, said Spirit spokesman Ken Evans.

Spirit’s human resources staff will conduct more interviews this week as a result of the fair and make additional offers for jobs to start in the next 90 days.

“We’re really pleased with the number of offers we have been able to make as a result of the job fair,” Evans said.

The company continues to accept resumes through its website makeitfly.aero.

Spirit is working to hire hundreds of mechanics, inspectors and machine operators to keep up with increases in production rates.

The increase in hourly workers comes after recent cuts in the companies ranks of salaried personnel and managers.

In July, Spirit cut 360 salaried and management employees in Wichita and Tulsa to reduce overhead and operate more efficiently, the company said. In mid-September it laid off an additional 150 employees and it offered voluntary retirement and layoffs to additional employees.
