Police are looking for a suspect in an an early-morning shooting Saturday near Hillside and Douglas that sent a 53-year-old man to the hospital in critical condition.

The shooting occurred shortly after 1 a.m. in the 200 block of South Holyoke, Sgt. Scott Brunow said.

A 33-year-old woman told police a man running north by her house yelled, “Help, they are after me.” She saw another person running after the man.

When she went inside to call 911, she heard shots fired, Brunow said.

Police found the victim nearby with several gunshot wounds. He was taken to Wesley Medical Center.

“He was unresponsive,” Brunow said, “so we haven’t been able to get an information from him.”

The woman told police the person pursuing the victim was dressed all in black and had a gun. But she couldn’t give any more information about the person, including whether it was a man or woman, Brunow said.
