Wheelspin Kruz’n for Kids is on after all

  • Published Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, at 12 a.m.

There’s one person I’ve dealt with ever since we started the Wheels page who never fails to impress me with her selfless devotion to her community. Cheryl Boyes is the charity lady of the car nuts of Wichita.

This year, it looked as if her Kruz’n for Kids Charity Car Cruise was not going to happen. She couldn’t find a place to stage the event and she was running out of time. Frustrated and disappointed, she told me she might not be able to help collect toys for kids this holiday season.

But, being Cheryl, she didn’t give up and she is now scrambling to make the ninth annual version of her event a reality. The Westway Shopping Center at Pawnee and Seneca stepped up and offered its parking lot for the cruise-in.

“I need to do in under three weeks what I should have been doing for three months,’ she said. “It’s scary for me, but I have to do it for the kids and I believe and have faith.”

So all you have to do is bring a new, unwrapped gift for a kid of any age to the cruise-in between 1:30 and 3 p.m. that Sunday. Simple, eh? You’ll make somebody’s Christmas a little better and you’ll be showing Cheryl how much we all appreciate what she does for the collector car community. Call her at 316-685-6590 for more information.
