Each Monday, The Eagle highlights a government record that is available to the public. Open records help people keep government in check and help them better understand how government affects their lives.

For a complete list of You Oughta Know columns, go to www.kansas.com/oughta.

The record: The status of licenses issued by the Kansas State Board of Healing Arts.

Why you’d want it: To ensure a healthcare provider you are considering seeing is licensed. Information about disciplinary actions also is available.

Where you get it: Go to the board’s website, www.ksbha.org. Use the “Verifications” link to search for a provider. Click on the “Board Actions” link to view disciplinary actions.

How much does the information cost: The information is free.
