About 200 students from Wichita-area schools participated in events marking National Manufacturing Day at Wichita Area Technical College on Friday.

The event allowed students to visit different exhibits that featured such subjects as robotics, welding, machining, aviation manufacturing and industrial design, according to a news release.

In addition to exhibits, there also were demonstrations by area businesses and manufacturers, and students heard from a variety of local officials.

The aim of the event, according to the release, was to provide students with a realistic look at manufacturing in the 21st century, and to feature some of the skills and processes used in modern manufacturing processes. This was the first year that WATC had an event marking the national day.
