An 8-year-old girl died at a hospital Friday night after she was hit earlier in the evening by an ice cream truck in Kansas City, North.

The incident was reported just after 5 p.m. at 108th Terrace and North Harrison Street. The girl was rushed to a hospital with critical injuries and pronounced dead a short time later, Kansas City police said.

The incident occurred on a residential street, and according to witness reports, the girl was on the sidewalk running after the truck when she ran in front of it, police said.

The driver of the truck stayed at the scene and was cooperating with investigators.
