Upcoming events: Holiday Galleria, Taste of Home, Art on the Trail, Rosstoberfest

Holiday Galleria opens Thursday

The annual Holiday Galleria shopping event put on by the Junior League of Wichita opens on Thursday and runs through Oct. 13 at the Century II Expo Hall. This is the 10th year for the event, which fills Century II with more than 115 regional and national merchants. The event opens on Thursday with a $60-a-person premiere party that will feature live music, appetizers and adult beverages. Tickets to that party are available at www.holidaygalleria.org. Regular shopping hours are 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Oct. 11, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 12 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 13, and admission is $10. There’s also a Girls Night Out event from 5 to 9 p.m. on Oct. 11 that’s $17 in advance, $20 day of the event and will include appetizers, margaritas and entertainment. Taste of Home at Hartman

The Taste of Home Cooking School and Expo is returning to Hartman Arena on Friday. The event, sponsored by Taste of Home magazine, features cooking demonstrations, shopping, prize giveaways and more. All attendees get a goodie bag. The expo is from 3 to 7 p.m., and the cooking school is from 7 to 9 p.m. Tickets are $12 at the door. This year’s event will feature popular home chef Jamie Dunn. Art on the Trail

The Great Plains Nature Center at 6232 E. 29th St. North will put on its 10th annual Art on the Trail event from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. It will feature working artists creating pieces using a variety of media at spots along the half-mile loop of paved trail inside Chisholm Creek Park. Nature craft projects will be set up for children. Admission is free. For more information, call 316-683-5499.

Rosstoberfest is this weekend

The sixth annual Rosstoberfest Run, a 5K race and one-mile fun run through College Hill that raises money for Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy, is scheduled for Saturday. The 5K starts at 9:30 a.m. and the one-mile at 10:30 a.m. at Douglas and Roosevelt. Advance entry fees are $25 ($30 online and $35 race day) for the 5K and $15 ($20 online and $25 race day) for the one-mile event. Runners can register at First Gear, 111 N. Mosley, at GoRun Wichita east or west, or at www.rosstoberfest.org.
