A Greenwood County shooting left two adults dead and a third critically injured Wednesday night, and authorities were seeking a suspect who should be considered armed and dangerous, a sheriff’s detective said.

According to the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office, the shooting occurred at a Eureka-area residence.

In an e-mail news release late Wednesday night, the Sheriff’s Office identified the suspect as Kevin Robert Welsh, 35, of rural Toronto, Kan. He was in a vehicle described as a late-model gold-colored Ford Explorer with a veterans tag of 20AXY, said sheriff’s Detective Josh Nelson. The Explorer has 20-inch after-market rims, Nelson said.

The news release gave this account: At about 7:24 p.m. Wednesday, deputies were dispatched to a report of a burglary, and while en route, a victim called 911 to report that multiple shots had been fired and that multiple people were injured.

Deputies found two people with gunshot wounds, and they were pronounced dead at the scene. A third person who suffered gunshot wounds was taken by air ambulance to Wesley Medical Center in critical condition.

Officers from a number of local and state agencies were assisting at the scene and in efforts to catch the suspect, the release said.

The victims’ names were not released.
