Body found on North Oliver

Lt. Dave Mattingly of the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office talks about the investigation at the scene where a body was found on Oliver north of 77th Street near Kechi Monday morning.

Authorities are looking for a black Ford Probe in connection with the killing of Deandre Freeman Jr. on Monday.

Freeman, 23, was found on the side of the road in the 8000 block of North Oliver by a man walking his dog shortly before 7:30 a.m. Monday.

Sedgwick County Sheriff Jeff Easter on Tuesday said investigators are working the case as a homicide. An autopsy is scheduled Tuesday to determine the cause of death, he said.

The Ford Probe that investigators are looking for is an early 1990s model, with headlights that flip up when they are turned on.

“We believe it might be involved in this case,” Easter said.

Authorities do not have a tag number for the car.

“We’re just looking for that car,” Easter said.

Investigators are retracing Freeman’s steps over the last three days of his life. He was last seen early Monday morning.

Freeman’s body was found on the east shoulder of Oliver next to a field north of the Kechi city limits. Easter would not say whether Freeman had been killed elsewhere and left at that location.

“The most important thing is the integrity of the case,” he said. “We’re not going to divulge any information … that can alert the person that did this.”
