A 39-year-old Wichita man was killed Friday when his motorcycle crashed head-on into an SUV at 45th Street South and Seneca, police said.

Wichita police Sgt. Dan Binkley said a preliminary investigation indicates the man was driving north in a southbound lane of Seneca, possibly to pass other vehicles, when the collision occurred around 9:25 p.m.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead by Sedgwick County Emergency Medical Services a short time later at the scene, Binkley said. His name has not been released.

The 22-year-old man driving the SUV and his passenger, a woman in her 30s, suffered minor injuries but refused medical treatment at the scene, Binkley said. Both are Wichita residents, he said.

Seneca from 44th Street South to just north of 47th is expected to remain closed until after midnight while police continue to investigate, Binkley said.
