A routine maintenance visit spelled big trouble for a tenant at a northeast Wichita apartment complex Thursday, police said.

The complex staff had notified residents at the Waterford Apartments in the 8500 block of East 29th Street that they would be performing routine maintenance in apartments, Wichita police Lt. Steve Kenney said. When the manager went into one unit at about 11 a.m. Thursday, she saw drug scales, baggies of cocaine and marijuana in plain sight.

She called 911 and also took photos of the drugs and paraphernalia, Kenney said. While officers were at the apartment, the 27-year-old man who lives there returned home. He was taken in for questioning and later booked into the Sedgwick County Jail.
