Average wages in Sedgwick County fell 1.6 percent in the first quarter of 2013, compared to the first quarter of 2012, to a weekly average of $867.

The drop comes after several quarters of strong yearly wage gains, and reflects more hiring at lower wages.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the national average weekly wage increased 0.6 percent to $989 in the first quarter of 2013, compared to the same period in 2012.
