When it comes to volunteers, Beth Thummel, volunteer coordinator at the Wichita Children’s Home, says Patricia Henry is a one-woman show.

“She is amazing. There is no job she won’t tackle,” Thummel said. “Any job she does, she does to the fullest.”

Henry says it is important to simply help children.

“I’ve always felt badly for children being in the situation they are in and it is not of their making,” she said.

Since her retirement four years ago, Henry has volunteered at the Children’s Home as many as four to five days a week.

“Right now, I am working on the winter clothing and taking the summer clothes off the shelves,” she said.

Thummel said that when children arrive at the home, they often don’t have spare clothing. Henry has sorted the clothing from infant up to size 18.

“She makes our admission process go so much simpler,” Thummel said.

Henry said she thinks only of the children.

“I just love kids,” she said. “… That’s why I do it.”
