A standoff in the 2800 block of South Washington ended late Friday night when police used tear gas to flush out a man who had threatened his girlfriend earlier in the day, police Sgt. Bruce Watts said Saturday.

The incident, near Pawnee and Hydraulic, started about 3:15 p.m. Friday as a domestic-violence case, Watts said.

The man’s 34-year-old girlfriend told police that her boyfriend was strung out on meth and threatened to kill her with a knife and a baseball bat. She managed to escape and call 911, Watts said, and that’s when police arrived, followed by a SWAT team.

The man was finally arrested without incident after the tear gas was used late Friday, Watts said.
