Wheelspin A chance to help a little car guy

  • Published Saturday, Sep. 21, 2013, at 12 a.m.

It’s not exactly a secret that car guys are a pretty generous bunch. When they hear of someone who is undergoing a tough time, especially a child, they step up and help.

Unfortunately, that’s the situation little Christoffer Hecox Jr. is facing right now. Christoffer, who’s 22 months old, was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor last month and is now undergoing chemotherapy every 28 days in Kansas City.

To help his family defray travel and lodging costs, a “Cool Cars for Christoffer” benefit car show is being planned for Oct. 6 at the Wichita Ballroom, 4150 W. Kellogg Dr., from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

There will be a raffle and a silent auction to help raise funds. The family is also asking that people who come to the event donate a hat for other kids who are undergoing chemo — a great idea. And who among us doesn’t have a surplus of cool car hats stashed in a closet?

Christoffer’s dad says his son has grown up around cars and loves everything about them. Take a look at this guy’s face in the photo with his grandad’s T-bird and you’ll see it for yourself.

If you can help this little fella out, please do so. And bring a hat.
